DevOps Services in Croatia

Croatia exports engineering time more than it exports software, and the platforms underneath that work have to survive teams spread from Zagreb to the islands.

DevOps in Croatia — the detail

DevOps Services for Croatia Software Teams

Croatia's technology economy is spread out in a way few countries of its size are. Zagreb holds the largest concentration by far, with 663,592 residents and most of the banks, agencies and product companies. Split, at 149,830, and Rijeka, at 107,964, anchor a coast where an engineer can work for a Munich or San Francisco employer without leaving the country, and where a residence permit for remote workers has made that arrangement official. Meanwhile the seasonal economy sets a rhythm nothing else in Europe quite matches: booking, ferry, payment and rental systems that idle in February and absorb a year of load in eight weeks of summer.

That combination makes a distributed platform the default rather than an ambition. Md Nahid (CKA, CKS, AWS SAA) does the engineering inside your own accounts on Europe/Zagreb hours, which are the same hours from Osijek to Dubrovnik. The hyperscalers stop short of Croatia, so the nearest regions are Milan at 522 km, carrying AWS eu-south-1, Google europe-west8 and Azure Italy North, then Zurich at 604 km. Both sit in the roughly 10 to 20 ms band, so residency and price decide.

The closest region to Croatia is AWS eu-south-1 in Milan, Italy, about 522 km away — a round trip of roughly 10-20 ms before application time. Because there is no in-country region, we design for that reality: cache and edge-terminate close to your users, keep chatty service-to-service calls inside one region, and place data with residency rules in mind rather than pretending the distance is not there.

Distances are great-circle from the area centre; round-trip figures are conservative estimates from that distance, not measured SLAs.

The Croatia Markets We Serve

Our Croatia coverage follows where engineering actually happens — Zagreb, Split, Rijeka. Every engagement is remote-first, so a team's postcode never decides how fast it ships.

Industries We Serve in Croatia

Tourism and hospitality drive more of the software market than the brochures suggest: booking engines, channel managers, ferry and rental platforms, and point-of-sale in thousands of seasonal businesses. Nearshore software services form the second pillar, with agencies and product teams delivering for German, Nordic and American clients. Maritime industries carry real weight along the coast, from ports and shipyards to operators moving cargo inland. Banking and insurance concentrate in Zagreb, mostly under foreign ownership and European supervision. Pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing, including electric vehicle engineering, add regulated and data-heavy workloads. And the public sector, spending EU funds on digitisation, buys under procurement rules that shape delivery as much as the technology does.

What Croatia Teams Get from Working with Us

A team split between an office in Zagreb, a flat on the coast and a contractor abroad cannot rely on anyone walking over to ask a question, and the infrastructure has to reflect that.

  • Clusters that behave the same for everyone. Kubernetes cluster management gives every engineer the same deployment surface, whether they log in from Rijeka or from a client office in Germany.
  • Capacity for a summer that arrives at once. Autoscaling and load testing planned around a season that multiplies traffic, rather than around a launch that never repeats.
  • One clock for the whole country. Europe/Zagreb, currently UTC+2, shared with Austria, Germany and Italy, and six hours ahead of US Eastern for American clients.
  • Euro and Schengen assumptions baked in. Contracts, regions and data flows treated as ordinary EU arrangements, which is what Croatian companies now work with day to day.
  • No office, deliberately. We are remote because your team already is, and what a body in a chair would cost goes into senior engineering time instead.

Common Questions from Croatia Teams

We have one quiet quarter before the season starts. What would be running by the end of it?

Two weeks mapping what you run and how it reaches production. By roughly week six, one representative service should build, test and deploy end to end without manual steps. The rest of the quarter widens that path across the estate, moves infrastructure into version control, and leaves documentation your own engineers helped write.

Our team is scattered along the coast and inland. Does that matter?

Only in the sense that it rules out fixing things by walking over to a desk. Everyone shares Europe/Zagreb time, so scheduling stays easy; what has to change is where knowledge lives. We work in your repositories and channels and write decisions down, so an engineer in Split reads the same account as one in Zagreb.

A German client demands ISO 27001 alignment and NIS2 readiness. What can you cover?

The engineering evidence, not the certificate. Asset inventories generated from code, access reviews, retention and logging set deliberately, patch records, tested backups and incident runbooks. Your company still owns the management system, the scope decisions, the auditor relationship and any contact with a supervisory authority. A defensible gap beats a claimed control you do not run.

We are eight people and cannot justify a platform team. Does this scale down?

Eight is a workable size, and it scales down further. The point is not to give you a platform team but to take platform work away from developers who were hired to build product. We keep the tooling deliberately small, because anything you cannot operate without us is a liability rather than an asset.

Which hours do you keep, and what about our clients abroad?

Europe/Zagreb, CET through winter and UTC+2 in summer, identical to Germany, Austria and Italy where many Croatian firms sell. That means no timezone gymnastics for your European clients. Croatia runs six hours ahead of US Eastern, so an afternoon here overlaps the American morning, which is usually enough for calls and handovers.

Some of our systems still run on a local provider. Do they all have to move?

No, and pretending otherwise is how migrations stall. We separate what genuinely benefits from a hyperscaler, what is fine where it is, and what should simply be retired. Anything that moves goes in stages, with one low-risk workload proving the landing zone and the rollback before customer-facing systems follow.
