DevOps in Germany — the detail

DevOps Services for Germany Software Teams

Germany builds software that works and ships it like it is 2012. The pattern repeats from Stuttgart's automotive suppliers to Hamburg's freight operators and Dresden's semiconductor plants: a product with real customers, a virtualisation estate in a leased Rechenzentrum, a Jenkins server nobody dares restart, and a release calendar measured in quarters. Nothing is broken enough to justify a rewrite, and nothing is fast enough to answer a competitor who deploys twice a day.

Modernisation is what we do remotely, anywhere among the 16 federal states and 143 German cities, without an office you end up paying for. Md Nahid (CKA, CKS, AWS Solutions Architect) leads the engineering. Frankfurt is the country's centre of cloud gravity — AWS eu-central-1, Google Cloud europe-west3 and Azure Germany West Central all sit there, roughly 138 km from the middle of the country and under 10 ms from it, with Google's europe-west10 in Berlin and europe-west4 in the Netherlands as sensible second regions. The route out of a legacy estate is incremental: containerise what earns money, put the network and identity into Terraform, move one service, prove the rollback, then repeat.

The closest region to Germany is AWS eu-central-1 in Frankfurt, Germany, about 138 km away — a round trip of under 10 ms before application time. We pin latency-sensitive services there and spread availability zones for resilience.

Distances are great-circle from the area centre; round-trip figures are conservative estimates from that distance, not measured SLAs.

Our Footprint in Germany

Our Germany coverage follows where engineering actually happens — Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Köln and 109 more metros. Every engagement is remote-first, so a team's postcode never decides how fast it ships.

Sectors Driving DevOps Demand in Germany

Automotive and its supplier tiers dominate the south, and their software teams in Stuttgart, Munich and Ingolstadt now ship connected-vehicle and diagnostics platforms on release cycles the factory never had. Industrial machinery and the wider Mittelstand are pushing plant telemetry into cloud analytics while keeping the shop floor isolated. Frankfurt and Munich carry banking, payments and insurance, where change control is a supervisory question rather than a preference. Logistics and shipping firms in Hamburg, Duisburg and Köln run planning systems that cannot pause for a maintenance window. Chemicals and pharmaceutical groups along the Rhine bring validated environments and long retention rules. Berlin's consumer platforms and Dresden's semiconductor cluster round out the picture, each with build workloads that punish inattentive spending.

How We Earn a Place on Germany Engineering Teams

Hiring your way out of this takes two quarters, a recruiter fee and a candidate who wants Berlin. A remote senior team starts on the estate you already have.

  • Strangle, do not rewrite. Application containerisation lifts the revenue-critical monolith onto a platform first; the rewrite argument can wait until deployment stops being an event.
  • Frankfurt-anchored architecture. Three hyperscaler regions share one metro, so a workload here gets sub-10 ms latency and a credible second region without leaving the country.
  • Your full working day, Europe/Berlin. Deploys, reviews and incident calls sit inside CET and CEST, currently UTC+2, and your afternoon still catches the US East Coast morning six hours behind.
  • Evidence the pipeline produces on its own. Peer review, four-eyes approval and an immutable deploy history land in the tooling — the engineering half of a GDPR or ISO 27001 case. The framework and the attestation stay yours.
  • Certified hands, no headcount. CKA, CKS and AWS Solutions Architect credentials on the work itself, billed as a service, not as salaries, pension and notice periods.

Germany: Questions We Get Asked Most

Which hours do your engineers actually keep for a German client?

Europe/Berlin is the working clock — CET in winter, CEST and UTC+2 through summer. Standups, change windows and incident bridges sit inside your day rather than at the edges of it. Because Germany runs six hours ahead of US Eastern, an afternoon release here still lands in the New York morning if your customers are American.

Should we hire a platform engineer instead of engaging you?

Eventually, yes, and we will help you write the job description. Today the maths is against you: a search here runs across two quarters, ends in a notice period, and gives you one person covering Kubernetes, pipelines, networking and security. An engagement gives you that spread immediately and keeps the option to hire later open.

How is the work priced?

Two shapes. A fixed-scope project for a defined piece of modernisation — a pipeline rebuild, a Terraform migration, a cluster stand-up — quoted before it starts. Or an agreed ongoing capacity when the estate needs continuous attention. Either way the shape is set with you first, and there is no recruiter fee and no office overhead priced into the rate.

A works council here will ask where our code and documentation sit once an outside partner has access. Where do they actually live?

In your systems, not ours. We join your Slack or Teams, your ticket board and your repositories, run a short written update each week, and keep architecture decisions in files that live in your version control. Working language is English. Nothing important is agreed in a call your engineers were not invited to.

We are leaving a leased Rechenzentrum and have to decide which German region each workload lands in. How does that sequence run?

Weeks one and two are an inventory: what runs where, what nobody understands, what breaks releases. Weeks three to six deliver the first visible win, usually a pipeline that builds and deploys one service end to end. The rest of the quarter widens that path to a second and third service and puts the infrastructure under version control.

What has to be in place before the first pull request?

Days, not months. What sets the pace is access: read-only credentials to the cloud accounts and repositories, a walkthrough with whoever knows the estate best, and a decision on who signs off changes. Where those are already in place, the first pull request is not waiting on anything else. Nobody needs to relocate or be recruited first.
